Opera Bar's Seagull Patrol: How Dogs are Keeping Sydney Safe and Scenic!

In a unique twist, Sydney's famous Opera Bar has employed specially trained dogs to keep its seagull population in check. Since 2018, border collies and kelpies have been patrolling the venue, charming visitors and ensuring the seagulls keep their distance.

The dogs, trained by the dog training company Mad Dogs and Englishmen, walk the length of the bar on a leash with their trainer, deterring seagulls from swooping in on unsuspecting diners' meals. This innovative approach has recently gone viral on TikTok, showcasing the delightful work of these canine employees.

The Sydney Opera Bar's location, right beside the iconic Opera House, offers stunning views but also attracts pesky seagulls known for their chip-stealing antics. To combat this, the bar has employed a rotating roster of about 20 dogs, ensuring a different dog patrols the area each day of the week.

According to James Webb, owner of Mad Dogs and Englishmen, the dogs' presence has significantly reduced the seagull-related food theft issues. Paid for by the two restaurants on the lower concourse, this initiative has proven to be an effective and humane way to manage the seagull population.

Drawing inspiration from this innovative approach, we at Nicole and Baby, recognize the importance of well-trained dogs in unique roles. Just as these dogs protect Opera Bar, Nicole and Baby offers a range of stylish and functional products to keep your furry friends safe and comfortable.
